Built By Hand, From the Ground Up
Our founder, Wayne grew up on a small family hobby farm where beef and hogs were processed at home. Some of his earliest memories are of that work, and of making homemade sausage alongside his father. What started as a family project became a lifelong passion.
He came from three generations of builders and made his living as a union carpenter and construction supervisor, but meat processing never left him. In 1995, he opened a small seasonal processing plant in Pennsylvania. Every winter he handled venison, beef, and hogs, often a couple hundred deer a season, all while working full-time in construction.
A Leap of Faith
In 2003, Wayne and Stacey made a decision that changed everything.
Through family in Thorp, they learned about a shuttered meat processing facility in nearby Cadott, Wisconsin. With little more than a wish and a whim, they packed up their two kids and moved halfway across the country.
They figured they'd be open within a month. The doors finally opened that October, after more hard work, and more lessons learned, than they ever expected.
Rooted In Wisconsin
Wayne served 15 years on the board of the Wisconsin Association of Meat Processors (WAMP), helping support the craft and the independent processors who carry it forward. That commitment to the industry and to our community runs through everything we do.
We're proud of where we started, grateful to the community that welcomed us, and excited for what's ahead.
